NEW DELHI: A couple that chooses to give birth to a child conceived despite undergoing sterilization cannot demand money to raise it,National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ruled.
While deciding a case filed by a woman against St Stephen’s Hospital, the consumer court said, “Sterilization is not 100% safe and secure” and a child conceivsed and born after an unsuccessful tubectomy cannot be termed unwanted. “Compensation for maintenance and upbringing of such a child cannot be claimed,” it said.
